Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting is a form of problem solving. Troubleshooting is the process of finding and eliminating
the cause of a problem.
Troubleshooting are divided into 2 types
1. Hardware Troubleshooting
2. Software Troubleshooting
Hardware Troubleshooting:
It deals with the process of eliminating the potential causes of problems related to PC
components, namely
Hard Disk
Monitor
Mouse and others
Software Troubleshooting:
It referred to removal of the problems arising due to system software or application software.
Troubleshooting requires identification of the malfunction(s) or symptoms within a system. Then,
experience is commonly used to generate possible causes of the symptoms. Determining which cause is
most likely is often a process of elimination – eliminating potential causes of a problem. Finally,
troubleshooting requires confirmation that the solution restores the product or process to its working
state.
Following five step processes is adopted in troubleshooting when a problem is encountered
1. Identify the list of symptoms for the problem.
2. Create a hypothesis which can satisfy the symptoms.
3. Isolate the problem as per the suggested hypothesis.
4. Implement the action plan by testing the hypothesis and narrow-down the possibilities.
5. Test whether things have come to normal and observe.
Trouble shoot:
1). If you hit the power button & nothing is happened.
Check all power connections
Check for power on motherboard (or) system board
2). If the system turns on but does not beep (or) begin to boot up
Remove all components except mother board (or) system board / CPU check by giving power to
them
Computer error beeps codes (or) sounds
1). No beep : no power, bad CPU, loose peripherals.
2). One beep : every thing is normal.
3). Two beeps : CMOS error.
4). One Long beep , One Short beep : mother board (or) system board problem
5). One Long beep, two short beep : Video problem
6). One Long beep, three short beep s : video problem
7).three long beeps : keyboard error
8). Repeated long beep : memory error
9).continuous high-low beeps : CPU over heating.
